Our History

2010

SEP The Group acquires the outstanding 50% interest in Bahia Minerals BV and secures an option to purchase 100% of the outstanding shares of Block V Limited and Caera Minerals Limited, which together own Greystone Mineracao do Brasil Limitada (‘Greystone’).  Greystone holds an iron ore mineral licence adjoining the BMBV project area.
AUG 50.5% of Camrose Resources Limited ('Camrose') acquired.  Camrose's assets are high quality copper and cobalt exploitation licences located in the DRC.
APR The Group further diversifies through the purchase of a 12.2% interest in Northam Platinum Limited, a major platinum producer in South Africa. Subsequently the interest was increased and currently stands at 14.35%.

FEB

ENRC acquires a 90% interest in Chambishi Metals PLC, a smelting facility in Zambia, together with a 100% interest in Comit Resources FZE, a Dubai-based marketing and sales company that historically has handled Chambishi’s copper and cobalt sales.  The acquisition is completed in June 2010.

 

2009

NOV The Group diversifies further with the acquisition of the Central African Mining and Exploration Company (‘CAMEC’), an Africa focused emerging mining company, whose operations are centred around copper and cobalt, coal, bauxite, platinum, trucking and logistics and fluorspar.  CAMEC's copper and cobalt operations are located in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with development projects in Mozambique, Mali, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
FEB A 25% interest in Shubarkol Komir JSC (‘Shubarkol’), a major thermal coal producer in Kazakhstan, is acquired.

 

2008

MAY The Group acquires 50% of Bahia Minerals BV (commonly referred to as Bahia Mineracao Limitada or 'BML'), a Brazilian company focused on the development of an iron ore deposit in the Bahia State of Brazil.

APR The Group, as part of its strategy of regional expansion, acquires Serov Group, a ferrochrome producer in eastern Russia, and certain related entities.  This acquisition reinforces the Group's market position in the ferrochrome industry and in the region.
MAR ENRC becomes a member of the FTSE 100 on the London Stock Exchange.

 

2007

DEC ENRC floats on the London Stock Exchange, with a market capitalisation on Admission of approximately £6.8 billion.
ENRC announces the inauguration of KAS, with an initial annual capacity of 62,500 tonnes per annum.

 

2006

DEC Assets are reorganised into a single group of companies.  This sees the holding company incorporated in England and Wales and a simplification of the ownership structure of the Group’s assets.

 

2004

 

The Group acquires Zhairem GOK, adding to its manganese mining operations. The Ferroalloys Division also includes the Aktobe and Aksu ferroalloy plants and the Akturbo gas power station.

 

Construction of a new aluminium smelter, Kazakhstan Aluminum Smelter (‘KAS’), begins.

 

1999

 

The Logistics Division is established, incorporating a number of freight forwarding company, a railway operating company and railway construction and repair businesses.

 

1996

 

The Iron Ore Division is established through the acquisition by the Founders of SSGPO ('Sokolov-Sarbai Mining Production Association') and includes primary mining operations that produce iron ore, ancillary mining operations that produce limestone, dolomite and bentonite-clay, an iron ore processing plant and a power plant.

 

The Alumina and Aluminium Division is established through the merger of several mining and energy-producing enterprises and an alumina refinery, and operated via Aluminium of Kazakhstan.

 

The Energy Division is established through the acquisitions of Eurasian Energy Corporation ('EEC'), and the open pit coal mine and maintenance business.

1995

 

The Ferroalloys Division is established as Kazchrome is formed as a joint stock company in accordance with a decree of the Government of Kazakhstan and then acquired by the Founders.  Its mining operations initially comprised of Kazchrome’s Donskoy GOK and Kazmarganets.

 

1994-1996

 

Assets are acquired through the participation of the Founders in the privatisation process in Kazakhstan.
