The Group's Ferroalloy Division is the world's largest producer of ferrochrome, on a chrome content basis (Source: Heinz H. Pariser, 2007).
The division comprises the following operations: Kazchrome, which includes: Donskoy Unit, Aktobe Plant, Aksu Plant, KazMarganets Unit; Zhairem Unit and Serov.
The Ferroalloy Division produces and sells high-carbon ferrochrome (including speciality grades such as low-phosphorus ferrochrome), medium- and low-carbon ferrochrome and other alloys including ferrosilicochrome, ferrosilicomanganese and ferrosilicon, as well as chrome and manganese concentrate.
The division is vertically integrated: it owns and operates chrome ore mines in northwest Kazakhstan and manganese ore mines in central Kazakhstan and processes ore from its mines into ferroalloys at its Aksu and Aktobe Plants. In April 2008 the Group acquired Serov, which owns the Serov Ferochrome Factory, the Saranovskaya Mine Rudnaya and the Serov Metalconcentrate Works in eastern Russia. Serov produces a variety of ferroalloys including high, medium and low carbon ferrochrome. Its acquisiton will help reinforce the market position of the Group in the ferrochrome industry and in the region.
In the first half of 2008 the Group announced its intention to acquire a 50% stake in Xinjiang Tuoli Taihang Ferro-Alloy Co. Ltd ('Tuoli'), a Chinese ferroalloys producer.
ENRC's Ferroalloy Division sells its ferroalloys primarily to steel producers and sells the remaining chrome and manganese ore to third-party ferroalloy producers and the chemical industry.
