The Energy Division

The Group's Energy Division is one of the largest electricity providers in Kazakhstan, accounting for approximately 14.5% of the country's recorded electricity production in 2008.

It operates through Eurasian Energy Corporation JSC (''EEC''), and includes the Vostochny coal mine and Aksu power station.

The Energy Division is integrated with the Group's other operations and provides them with reliable access to low cost energy: it supplies electricity and coal to the Ferroalloy Division's Aksu Plant, the Iron Ore Division's power station and processing plant, and the Alumina and Aluminium Division's power station and the aluminium smelter, which was inaugurated in December 2007.

The Group's Energy Division also supplies electricity and coal to third parties.

In February 2009, the Group announced the acquisition of a 25% interest in Shubarkol Komir JSC, a major semi-coke and thermal coal producer based in Kazakhstan.
The acquisition will strengthen the integrated business model of ENRC and will allow the Group to secure a reliable and cost effective supply of relatively high quality thermal coal and semi-coke.
